The Thanksgiving Fallout

It's Wednesda, October 15th and Thanksgiving has come and gone. I did my best, I really did! But my aunt made her famous (and my favourite) golden rum cake. A moist rum cake with absolutely no resemblence to the fruit cake which I despise. Once I saw that, all my willpower crumbled. I know that I had 2 pieces on that night alone.....and last night I ate the very last piece last night......

So.

I had a feeling that something like this may happen so I weighed myself the Saturday before all the eating began. As of Saturday (October 4) I weighed:

Starting: 170lbs
Previous: 165lbs
Saturday: 161lbs

Total loss = 9lbs

However, I weighed myself this morning and all the food that I indulged in has taken its toll. Instead of 161 I am now at 162lbs and I never wanted to go backwards. The holiday is over! Back to our regularly scheduled programming of eating.  Nothing like a weight gain to scare you back to your baby carrots!

Update: new weight and some tips

So I'm an impatient person. I can't wait until Sunday to weigh myself with the scale staring me in my face every day in the bathroom. I'm reeally trying hard not to weigh myself every single day because that would be a little obssessive (or prudent maybe?).

But I've gone and done it and the news is good! I have to update my stats a bit, because my last post was so shaming.

Weight
Previous: 170lbs
New: 165lbs

Waist
Previous: 34"
New: 33"

So yay, 5lbs and 1 inch. I'm saving the other measurments for later, but frankly I doubt that anything else would have changed.

Now what am I eating, you may be wondering?  I drink a lot of water, that's important. Every morning for breakfast I eat large flake oatmeal with semi-skim milk (I would drink skim but I don't have a choice right now about that). I top it with some sliced almonds. It's very filling. I would recommend eating a piece of fruit to supplement that, like a nice grapefruit or an apple.  Large flake is important because that means it hasn't been processed. It takes a little bit longer to cook but it is much higher in fibre and fibre is very filling.

Lately I've been waking up too late to have 3 major meals (I've been getting up around lunch time), but when I do have time I try to make sure to get a lot of vegetables in.  I bought a large bag of baby carrots and I snack on those when I'm hungry. I also bought non-fat, no sugar yogurt (Silhouette, Yoplait's Source for example) for some sweet stuff. The past two days I've also had popcorn, but I popped it fresh from the kernel in a pot (no microwave popcorn) with corn oil and salt- no butter.

For dinner, I eat a lot of vegetables. I love having 2 bags of Arctic Gardens' steamed vegetables, with some meat.  Last night I made a large salad with red leaf lettuce, matchstick carrots (you can buy it already done), red kidney beans and a sprinkle of feta cheese. Add some balsamic vinaigrette and it's delicious. I had that with some baked chicken and a few(!) pieces of baked potatoes. Ideally, I would eat the salad with grilled chicken breast, but my griller is enroute to Canada right now so I don't have that option. And try to avoid potatoes wherever possible! I just couldn't resist.

Last thing, the bread I eat (when I do eat bread) is stone ground whole wheat for the fibre content.  I only eat ONE slice at a time.  One slice of bread is 120 calories. Just think about that!

First Entry- First Weigh In

First weekend back in Canada, and first week of eating 'normally'. By normal I mean a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, meat and carbohydrates, instead of the diet I had in St. Lucia which was inordinately skewed towards carbohydrates and meat (with a sprinkling of fruit!).  The fact is, it was just plain expensive to eat healthy in St. Lucia, with bread being a really cheap and filling alternative.

So this week I tried my hardest not to immediately succumb to the temptation of devouring everything in sight, just because it had been "6 months since I last had a [fill-in-the-blank]". With the exception of 2 slip-ups (ok 3) I did pretty well! I did have a bag of Doritos (it had been 6 months since I last had Doritos!) but then on Friday I had McDonalds and then...being at Union Station...a caramel pecanbon from Cinnabon.

Okay, well...to the weigh in. Let me get this out of the way. Yech.

Stats for October 5th, 2008

Height: 5'10
Weight: 170lbs
Waist: 34"
Bust: 37"
Hips: 43"
Thighs: 27"

Here's to seeing these numbers decrease on a weekly basis. Otherwise...how embarassing!
